Pas de Dieu (working title)
will be a dance duet for one human dancer and one virtual or “invisible”
dancer. Each dancer, visible and invisible, will have their motion tracked by
robotic spotlights that will be positioned on the ceiling downstage. The
spotlight covering the human dancer will detect the dancer’s location and
automatically follow her wherever she moves on the stage. The virtual dancer,
represented by the second spotlight, will automatically move around to show
its motion within the space. The virtual dancer will be an intelligent agent
that will react to the location and motion history of the human dancer and
respond accordingly with motion around the stage, mimicking the actions of a
real dancer. The spotlights will appear as two different colored shafts of
