John Rot (b. 1989) is a composer, teacher, and pianist from Elgin, Illinois. His string quartet toward a terminating congruence. was the only undergraduate work selected for performance in the 2012 Midwest Graduate Music Consortium's annual conference at Northwestern University. He received honorable mention in the 2011 BMI International Student Composer Competition for his work when, their efforts combined for nine instruments. In 2010 he held an Artist Residency at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta. He was the youngest composer to be selected as a national finalist in the 2009 ANALOG Arts Iron Composer competition. John received his Bachelor of Music degree from Oberlin Conservatory, where he received the Walter E. Aschaffenburg prize for outstanding music composition. He has studied composition with Reiko Füting, Lewis Nielson, and Josh Levine.
