Basic Tools for Producing Web Audio

Steps to distributing audio via the web

• Digitize Audio

  • Record from mic or Dat or cassette into computer (Peak for Mac works well)
  • Take directly from CD using RealProducer or Media Cleaner

• Decide on encoding methods

  • Do users have modem or ethernet connections?
  • Do you want users to download plugins?
  • Does your audio demand high resolution?
  • How long is your audio file?

• Encode Audio

  • Media Cleaner Pro for all formats
  • RealProducer for Real formats
  • QuickTime Pro for Quicktime
  • Dedicated MP3 encoders for MP3

• Create HTML document which contains audio

  • Any text editor
  • Netscape Composer
  • Macromedia Dreamweaver

• upload audio files and HTML to server

  • Fetch or another ftp tool

• change permissions on all files to allow public viewing

  • -->chmod 644 filename
  • -->chmod 755 filename
