AA-AAA-A-AA (Addressing 'ATCOE': An Artistic Apology and Ancillary Analysis). (with Original Composition)
ATCOE (A Treasured Collection of Eddies) is a 15 minute musical composition written for the flute doubling the piccolo, the clarinet doubling the bass clarinet, percussion, the piano, the violin, and the cello. The composition is conceived as a single piece that is divided into six movements played without pause. The essay that accompanies the score is in 3 parts. Part I is a discussion of factors that influenced the composition of ATCOE. This includes a description of the composition and an explanation of the title(s) of the work. Part II describes the pre-compositional aspects of the composition, with separate discussions of harmony, rhythm, and timbre. Part III is a detailed analysis of each of the six movements of ATCOE. Numerous musical examples and graphs will be found throughout the essay.
