MANHATTAN SINFONIETTA presents THE NEW SOLOIST: Individual and Ensemble Virtuosity En Masse
Tickets $15/10 (students) at the box office or by phone: 212-501-3330
Over the course of two programs, the musicians of the Manhattan Sinfonietta will explore the multiple and often contradictory roles of the soloist as an individual and within the setting of a larger ensemble. The virtuoso musicians of the Sinfonietta, under the baton of conductor and music director Jeffrey Milarsky, will take on the various duties of soloist, accompanist, leader, subordinate, and equal in all parts. Each work has been selected for its unique take on these collaborative variations.
At these concerts, the Sinfonietta will premiere specially commissioned concertos by David Gompper (violin+percussion) and Lei Liang (harp), within the context of existing contemporary concerto classics like Luciano Berio's points on the curve to find..., Philippe Leroux's d'Aller and Donald Martino's Triple Concerto. These large ensemble works will be interspersed with various solo/chamber works by Hitomi Kaneko, Galina Ustvolskaya, Arthur Kampela, Marcos Balter, Ivan Fedele, and Bob Hasegawa.
