Hailed for having "established herself as a very fine interpreter..." (NYCR), the Russian-born pianist Yelena Grinberg is rapidly gaining recognition as one of the most vibrant and poetic young artists on the classical music scene. As a winner of the Artists International Competition (2005), Ms. Grinberg performed her New York Debut recital at Carnegie's Weill Hall and was highly acclaimed for her "grand performance in a grand tradition" (NYCR). Joined by her violinist partner, Emilie-Anne Gendron, as part of the G-Sharp Duo, she performed her Alumni Winners Recital at Merkin Hall in 2008, sponsored by Artists International Presentations. At Juilliard, Ms. Grinberg has served as a faculty member in the Piano Minor Department and taught the undergraduate course on Piano Topics. She is currently an adjunct faculty member in Columbia University's Music Department, where she coaches duo piano and chamber music groups. In 2008, Ms. Grinberg has also joined the piano faculty at Usdan Center for Creative and Performing Arts. In addition, Ms. Grinberg is the organizer of the biannual Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard (BCJ) concert series at Columbia University?s Miller Theater. • G-Sharp Duo: Yelena Grinberg (piano) and Emilie-Anne Gendron (violin)
gsharpduo@gmail.com
Founded in 2003, the G-Sharp Duo is a dynamic ensemble established by violinist Emilie-Anne Gendron and pianist Yelena Grinberg when both were students in the Barnard-Columbia-Juilliard (BCJ) dual degree program. Over the past five years, they have garnered enthusiastic acclaim from New York's classical music scene for their highly expressive and thoughtful performances. Infusing their interpretations with a keen musical intellect, Ms. Gendron and Ms. Grinberg are committed to presenting not only the great hallmarks of violin-piano literature, but also contemporary works. Most notably, at Columbia University's Miller Theatre, they gave the world premiere of Hiroya Miura's "Moon Petals" (2005), a composition dedicated to the duo and written in memory of the composer and music theorist, Jonathan Kramer. This work was recently broadcast over New York Public Radio?s arts program Ear to Ear, hosted by David Garland. In 2006, the G-Sharp Duo received First Prize in the duo category of the International Chamber Music Ensemble Competition. Their 2007-2008 concert season marked their New York Debut recital at the Merkin Hall, sponsored by Artists International Presentations, Inc., as well as recitals at BargeMusic, Miller Theatre, the Harvard Club of New York, Steinway Hall, Carnegie's Weill Recital Hall, the Bates College Concert Series, the chamber music series at St. Paul?s Church in Brookline, Massachusetts and a lecture-performance, ?Musical Gestures in Franck?s Violin Sonata,? at New York University. In 2008, the G-Sharp Duo was awarded a chamber music residency at the Banff Centre in Canada, where they worked closely with such eminent artists as Barry Shiffman, Philip Setzer, and Stephen Prutsman. The upcoming 2008-2009 season will feature a variety of concert guest appearances in venues such as The Harvard Club, Miller Theater, Arium, and the Roerich Museum. The G-Sharp Duo could be readily contacted for private events, such as banquets, parties, receptions, weddings, corporate events, and more.
