the test we're referring to (http://puredata.info/docs/AndroidLatency) is a sort of real world test made with pure-data by chris mccormick. it measures round-trip time. i.e. the program starts a timer, generates a percussive sound in the speakers, picks it up again with the built-in mic, and stops the timer when the event is detected.
this test is not very scientific. part of the reported latency will be due to pdlib and the event detection itself, but still it gives a measure of how very disappointing the audio latency situation on android os is.
