Hi,
My name is Pia van Gelder. I am the Dorkbot-Syd Overlord. I am currently
working on our group application for Electrofringe 2009 (due at the end of
March). I was wondering if someone from Dorkbot-Adelaide would be interested
in partaking in one of the events I am going to propose. It's called "The
year in Dorkbot". It's pretty simple. Just an opportunity to talk to the
Electrofringe crowd about what Dorkbot is and what has been going on in the
past year. Last year we talked about a handful of presentations that had
taken place in the previous year. It was good for the
artists/musicians/scientists(etc) to get plugged and it gave the audience a
good perspective of the variety of different projects that are presented at
the event. I have done this talk two times in a row. Both have been quite
successful. Each time we have claimed new members.

I was hoping that this year we could do something similar but with a new
spin. If we could pool together one member from each group: Adelaide,
Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney... then we could talk about a couple of
different projects that had been shown in the last year and then we could
have a bit of a discussion about what we see as the future of Dorkbot in
Australia and DIY/Electronic Art/Open Source communities in Australia. Maybe
talk a bit about the background of each unit, what spaces we use etc. Could
be really interesting. Here is the description of last year's presentation:

Event Title: THE YEAR IN DORKBOT
Event Type: Artist Presentation
Event Description:
A review of the year in Dorkbot-Syd and a discussion about what Dorkbot is,
a regular
meeting for 'people doing strange things with electricity. Hosted by Dorkbot
coordinators and
regular participants a variety of established artists and engineers. Find
out how Dorkbot came
to be and a little about the wider community as well as a guided tour
through the various
presentations and works created throughout the year by Dorkbot-Syd
participants.

Also up for any other suggestions! Would just be great to meet!

Regards,

Pia
