As dorkbot-atl celebrates its third anniversary, I'm writing to let
you know about some exciting changes to the Atlanta chapter of this
international organization dedicated to art, technology, and "people
doing strange things with electricity."
Matt Gilbert will be taking over from me to run dorkbot-atl. Matt is
an incredible artist who makes extensive use of technology in his
work; many of you have already seen his work at performances by Sonic
Generator, Georgia Tech's chamber-music ensemble-in-residence. You can
learn more about Matt and his work at http://www.mattgilbert.net.
Matt will be moving dorkbot-atl meetings to Wonderroot (http://www.wonderroot.org
), a wonderful new community arts organization in Atlanta. We hope
that this change of venue will make it easier for everyone in the
community to attend dorkbot meetings -- not just those of you at
Georgia Tech. Matt will be sending more details to this mailing list
soon.
One final note: Georgia Tech is starting a new music technology
seminar series which may be of interest to you. This academically-
oriented series, sponsored by the Georgia Tech Center for Music
Technology, will feature Georgia tech students and faculty as well as
outside guests speaking on a variety of topics related to music
technology. It will take place on Tuesday afternoons. I will keep you
informed of these lectures through a new mailing list; if you do not
wish to receive such notices, just let me know.
It's been a pleasure organizing dorkbot-atl these last three years,
and I am excited about its future!
Best,
Jason Freeman
