[dorkbotdc-announce] Dorkbot DC + Make: DC

[Dorkbot DC]

Adam Koeppel & Nick Farr are trying to kick start Make: DC and, to this 
end, have approached Dorkbot DC for ideas.

Together with Adam & Nick, Gareth and I came up with the idea to hold 
quarterly project workshops with Make: DC. We've always wanted to do 
more maker projects and this seems like the ideal collaboration to grow 
the community while getting our hands on hardware. The idea would be 
that every third Dorkbot DC meeting would be a hands-on maker event.

Thanks to our friends at a previous meeting place, our first joint 
meeting is planned for Wednesday, January 16, 2008, 7pm - 9pm, at the 
Marian Koshland Science Museum of the National Academy of Sciences.

Adam & Nick have suggested the LED Cube as the our first project. Here's

We would appreciate any help with organizing kit compilation and 
purchase to exploit any possible volume discounts.

LED jockey, Tim Slagle stepped up last time and coordinated the purchase 
of kits for which he was reimbursed before the workshop by those that 
ordered them. We hope to be able to do something similar this time with 
(perhaps?) someone else taking the lead.

Please chime in or discuss via the blabber list, we'd appreciate any 
notions.
