From dorkbotdc at dorkbot.org Wed May 7 19:39:17 2008 From: dorkbotdc at dorkbot.org (Dorkbot DC) Date: Wed May 7 19:39:33 2008 Subject: [dorkbotdc-announce] MacDC Charter Membership Meeting! Message-ID: <48223DA5.1020904@dorkbot.org> The Washington DC Area has a Hacker Space: HacDC. We have a space, tools, equipment, donated resources and a growing crop of enthusiastic participants who are ready to launch the organization. We've seen the need for a space to collaborate on all forms of technology, culture and craft in new and interesting ways. That space is now a reality. The response from the community proves it's sustainable. Now is the time for you to get involved! http://hacdc.org/membership/ The incorporators of HacDC and the growing community around the space invite you to become a charter member. Members get access to the space in DC's Columbia Heights neighborhood to work on non-commercial projects involving art, science, code, technology, electronics?anything that requires a meeting space, workshop, lab or all of the above. We understand that many of you might not have the time to commit to becoming a charter member. That's fine! We still need your support to keep HacDC as open, public and service-oriented as possible: http://hacdc.org/donate/ Our big parts party was less than two weeks ago and we've come a long way since then. (Thanks to all who donated time, money and equipment!) We know it's going to take a lot of work to keep the enthusiasm level high and start cranking out insanely cool projects. Anything you can do to support, lend advice, or in any way help shepherd the effort into a sustainable and secure future is appreciated! Our Charter Membership meeting is on May 16 at 8:00 PM at HacDC. Please check our website and our events calendar for more on our public events. As always, you can check our (work in progress) website at http://hacdc.org or e-mail info@hacdc.org if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks again! The following comes from DorkbotDC regular Adam Koeppel: Hey All, We need a preliminary head count for participants in the next Make:DC meeting. Please email meetings@makedc.org if you are interested. This will be a two part meeting, with the first meeting on Thursday, 6/5 and the second on Thursday, 6/19. We will be building, programming, and using motor controllers based on Mark Adams's design, for details check out: http://www.epotential.com/radiofreegenome/make-dc-motor-driver-board We are estimating that the kit will cost $20-25, but this varies with quantity, so a preliminary head count will help us determine the actual cost. Once the cost is finalized I will take PayPal deposits for the kits later this week. Big thanks to Mark for designing this board!
