Great, thanks for all the responses. Whoever is interested in working on the
project, e-mail me off-list and I will set up a communication path. So far
it's myself Katie B. and Nikolas. :D

Unfortunately you can not just randomly coil magnet wire and attach it to
the uController, you have to tune the coil to make sure that it is set to
the resonance frequency of your chip. (As Lorne had mentioned, you are
correct btw. hehe) In this case, I think it's either 125kHz or 13.56mHz, I
haven't played with the ST card too much but these are my guesses as they
are either a vicinity or proximity style card.

Fortunately, I am in desperate need of antenna experience so that is
perfect! I think we have all the necessary skills covered now but anyone
else who would want to get involved feel free to e-mail me as well, the more
the merrier.

My thought is that if we end up designing some clothing with embedded
smarTrip cards, we could sell those to donate the money to the three
organizations most of us are apart of (Dorkbot, MAKE and HacDC) and maybe
buy a machine that all of us could use? CNC Milling, Plasma Cutter, etc.
etc.

Hope that inspires some involvement ^^

Cheers,

-Q
