I'm currently working on an immersive, interactive video installation 
project, and am slogging my way through figuring out how to use "vvvv":

It's free for non-commercial use, and has some really astounding 
capabilities.  Anyone here worked with this package before?

With this, Puredata, and Processing, there really is some phenomenal 
software out there for free.
