I used to have a butane iron that I'd crawl under consoles with. That way I could keep the iron instead of the solder in the mouth. I learned a breathing-out while soldering trick that helped me keep to my recommended daily allowance of lead. These days I'd need a headlamp too, my eyes ain't what they used to be.

I don't think I was the source for that trick, but I have been known to put the roll of solder in my mouth with the end sticking out to gain additional degrees of freedom.  With everyone's increased awareness of the dangers of lead I wouldn't do that any more.  It also puts your face right in the flux fumes...
