Well done! One thing - is there a way of linking to photos? Our photo collection, it has to be said, was always kind of flaky, but there were some real gems. I still think this is the best advert for what is so great about dorkbot: http://chinabone.lth.bclub.org.uk/gallery/main.php?g2_view=core.DownloadItem&g2_itemId=894&g2_serialNumber=2 So I have my collection here: http://chinabone.lth.bclub.org.uk/gallery/main.php/v/dorkbot/ Can we have a way to link photos - or even aggregate them from flickr like the last ruby site did. Message-ID: <9f2cc3d0807250331n3dde168co4cc833748f899570@mail.gmail.com> - details below, there's a fair chance I'll try and put together another "Dorkfest"-ish evening during the week but all suggestions welcome... (oh and did anyone find a brown jumper-sort-of-top in Limehouse Town Hall after this month's Dorkbot, cheers!) D London Games Fringe Wants Your Events: Oct 25-Nov 2, 2008 - from videogame culture to crossovers with film, TV and design July 8th, 2008: You don't need to be a shop or a software company, you don't even need to know much about video games - all you need to take part in this year's London Games Fringe is a good idea for a games-related get-together. And a venue to hold it in, ideally. Running from Saturday 25th October to Sunday 2nd November 2008, the London Games Fringe aims to cover anything less commercially-oriented than the main London Games Festival, which takes place the same week and is now the biggest games festival in the world. This year, the Fringe is particularly interested in crossovers with other creative industries - film, TV, design, theatre, and others - to explore their differences, similarities and collaborative possibilities in the multi-platform digital future. But of course we won't overlook conventional gaming, in all its many forms. Previous Fringes have addressed themes of game culture, innovation, education and diversity via a wide range of events across the capital, including: * The Soho Project, a week-long alternate reality game of fictional warring TV companies played on the real-life streets of Soho * Workshops and discussions on everything from the future of consoles to why there aren't more games for girls * Pub quizzes, mobile treasure hunts and contests to come up with new game ideas * Free training courses for anyone looking for a job in the games industry * Interactive art exhibitions offering new perspectives on gaming * Plus wireless multiplayer meet-ups, pub tournaments, game music club nights, and more If you'd like to join in the fun, keep an eye on the Fringe website at: http://www.londongamesfringe.com/ And if you've got an idea for a Fringe event (whether it's during the last week in October or not), please send a brief outline as soon as possible to: events@londongamesfringe.com - because the more we know in advance, the more help and publicity we'll be able to offer you! The sort of facilities I am interested in include: sheet metal brakes, CNC milling/routing, drill presses etc. My interest is for personal projects not commercial ventures. I have found a pay-as-you-go carpentry workshop service called 'MakingRoom' (http://www.makingroom.co.uk) near Acton but unfortunately is quite expensive for non-commercial undertakings and doesn't really offer the facilities that are of interest to me. I have also located a number of CNC routing 'bureaus' including one near to Hackney (http://www.cncworkshop.co.uk/) but being a full service it's not as 'hands-on' as I'd like. Finally, I have looked at a few prospectuses for community colleges across the London area but very few offer practical engineering training or facilities and none on a part-time, evening basis it seems. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time. Yep good point, it's a bit dead without photos. I'm a bit uneasy about the flickr aggregation thing, there are other photo sites after all. For now though I've re-implemented it, and will add a facility to add comments / links before making it live. Got to get some spam protection worked out first... For now though I moved the existing stuff to http://dorkbotlondon.org/ The wiki is faster now, should help with the dorkfest organisation. Latest news for the dorkfest is is that Aneeta will be doing her much loved knitting workshop again, ?on the soldering front Alex Z will be doing an arduino taster workshop (bring your own arduino board), Ben G will do a badscience related thing, Evan will be developing the max-style live human patching further, Sarah is working out a local history walk, Iain will be doing a micro-scraphead challenge, Helena doign a "movement for dorks" workshop + more: http://dorkbotlondon.org/wiki/index.php/ThingsHappening Note that this year it will be strictly advance tickets only, get yours here, limited supply! http://dorkbotlondon.org/camp08/ Cheers, alex
