[dorkbotnyc-blabber] LED question

Hi,

I just bought a pack of "assorted LEDs". I was told they range from 10-20mA
and 2-3V.
However, there's no way to tell (from the packaging itself) how each
individual LED is rated.
Does anyone know how to determine the actual rating of each LED ? If I put
20 mA through
an LED rated at 10 mA will it burn out quickly?
