I was there by a lucky coincidence. It was tons of fun, the London peeps are really great. The BBC shoot was crazy though, they kept doing multiple takes, faking people in the background, etc. The part in the video where the BBC woman turns to the camera and whispers "I'm at a dorkbot meeting..." -- they did that like 20 times while Mike Harrison pretended to be presenting his high voltage stuff. Most of the audience stayed around for it, sitting patiently while they did take after take. Not exactly in the dorkbot spirit, but they were very nice and seemed genuinely interested. If you're even in London I 100% recommend going to a dorkbot meeting there! douglas Miles Rose wrote: > congrats douglas > > http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/technology/8125259.stm > -- ............................................... http://artbots.org .....douglas.....irving........................ http://dorkbot.org .......................... http://music.columbia.edu/cmc/music-dsp .......... repetto............. http://music.columbia.edu/organism ........................................ http://douglasrepetto.org From douglas at music.columbia.edu Mon Jul 6 11:17:31 2009 From: douglas at music.columbia.edu (douglas repetto) Date: Mon Jul 6 11:17:44 2009 Subject: [dorkbotnyc-blabber] fall dorkbot meetings! This weekend is a hydroponics class @ Bug Labs w/ HTINK, and a class on making soft circuits (sewing with electronics) same location. https://mailman.neuropunks.org/mailman/listinfo/htink to join the htink mailing list, I announce our classes their. Message-ID: <4A691E0B.4050709@music.columbia.edu> Fresh from Victor and Douglas at the CMC! Dig out those old pen plotters and start making olde-timey drawing with real pens on real paper! Incredible! +++++ Chiplotle: an HPGL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language) Python API Finally, a way to control your grungy old pen plotters with your shiny new laptop! Chiplotle is a Python library that implements and extends the HPGL (Hewlett-Packard Graphics Language) plotter control language. It supports all the standard HPGL commands as well as our own more complex "compound HPGL" commands, implemented as Python classes. Chiplotle also provides direct control of your HPGL-aware hardware via a standard usb<->serial port interface. Chiplotle has been tested with a variety of HPGL devices from various companies, including Hewlett-Packard, Roland Digital Group, Houston Instrument, etc. It includes plotter-specific configuration files for many different plotter models, as well as a generic configuration that should work with any HPGL-compliant device. Quick start: find/buy an old pen plotter; hook it up via a usb<->serial interface; install Chiplotle; start plotting! http://chiplotle.org -- ............................................... http://artbots.org .....douglas.....irving........................ http://dorkbot.org .......................... http://music.columbia.edu/cmc/music-dsp .......... repetto............. http://music.columbia.edu/organism ........................................ http://douglasrepetto.org From info at pan-o-matic.com Fri Jul 31 01:47:13 2009 From: info at pan-o-matic.com (Stephanie Rothenberg) Date: Fri, 31 Jul 2009 01:47:13 -0400 Subject: [dorkbotnyc-blabber] seeking tech person to help with performance -- need to meet with person over weekend! We will be in Europe receiving a stream from Harvestworks in NYC. The performance is Aug 13-16 plus few hours testing on Aug 12. The stream can be U- Stream or Live Stream. Also need to turn on some switches on a giant electronic pipe organ that is triggered by Max. There will be tech support at Harvestworks so you would be basically just setting everything up and then coming back to take it down. The performance will run from 9-5 pm. If interested email asap b/c we need to meet with you this weekend. If you can stop by today, Friday, that would be joyous.
