if you have a parallel port on the computer you can easily use that
(monitor the pin states).
Otherwise can use a PIC or a basic stamp.
If you want it cheap and very easy buy this kit from rentron, it's an
'encoder' IC (a preprogrammed PIC) which monitors digital input pins
and sends an appropriate output signal (related to which switches are
'flipped'). You would simply replace the transmitter in the schematic
with your serial ports input pin ("RD"
