While I think some people in Hillsboro might be offended by
the 'middle of nowhere' reference, I think I know what you mean. =)
Consider, though, that when any business/employer/store/shop
locates in the 'burbs because it's cheaper, what they're really
doing is shifting their costs onto their workers/customers.
Their 'cheaper' location is more expensive for everybody else.
On the other hand, there is a lot of engineering talent in
Hillsboro that's probably interested in TechShop. TechShop
may do very well in Hillsboro.
But for them to say they're coming to Portland, and then to
locate in Hillsboro, is very disappointing. I would strongly
object to them calling that TechShop Portland.
I hope that someone can make this point to the organizers
at the meeting tonight, in a way that's polite and respectful
to them and to the locals. Coming from the Bay Area, they
probably have different attitudes about commuting than your
average NE Portland commie. =)

p.s. And who knows? We might be misreading this whole Hillsboro thing.
Maybe they want to demo an experimental condo-removing device for us!
