FYI, there's another option y'all should know about:
PCC has a metalworking class that's taught weekly
at Franklin High School. I took it several years ago.
The shop there is huge, they have 3 lathes and 3
milling machines, several sheet metal brakes,
all the welding stuff, aluminum casting, and some
small C&C machines. If you take the class multiple
times, you can basically use it as free weekly
shop time. And the instructor used to let me show
up during the school day, too. (Although it's odd
using a metal shop full of teenagers.)
I think I paid something like $250 for a semester
of that, and several people were taking the class
every semester just to be able to use the shop.
I amortize that I spent about $25 for each 3-hour
block of time in that shop.
Franklin High School in in SE Portland, up Division
a ways ... much closer to me than Hillsboro.
Just something to consider.
