I was discussing a tilt sensing compass module with ?? at the last 
dorkbot meeting.  He mentioned the cost for a module is $$$.  This 
module could be the basis for a tilt-compensating compass for under $50.

It combines a 3-axis compass plus a 2-axis acclerometer.  The outputs 
are analog so a uC would be needed to sense and communicate.  A complete 
module could be created for under $50, probably under $30 in quantity.
