Which mailing list? The dorkbotsf list? If so, I recommend it. Lots of 
good discussions pop up on there from time to time. I also discovered a 
former classmate from highschool was now living in SF and speaking at 
one of their events through that list. And being a scifi fan, seeing the 
occasional post from Rudy Rucker (and his son -- who is actually much 
more active in the group) makes me quite happy. ;~)
