While I personally like the "count the nipples" approach, having seen a 
little video footage of this event (or a similar midnight naked bike 
ride about a year ago), only the ones passing close by the camera were 
really visible.  Many others were riding in the street and in the 
darkness it wasn't clear how many there were, only lots of background 
movement.  It would take some massively bright lights and proper camera 
positioning to get a usable video stream.  Then again, all those nipples 
would be easier to see - you know, of course for testing and quality 
verification/assurance purposes!

Steve, if you were to get some of those hoses (that work mechanically), 
especially if they have the bell dinging thing, I'm pretty sure a sensor 
could be connected that would give a pulse that could be counted by an 
Arduino or other microcontroller board.  Since the pulse rate is pretty 
slow (less than 500 Hz), it'd be pretty easy to count the pulses using 
polling or the pin change interrupt.
