Making Noise with the Arduino.

So what drew me to this group was the desire to start working with the
Arduino. Currently, I am embroiled in a multi-touch project, so I
haven't gotten any hands on experience with a board, though I have
read a ton of stuff on it and am learning C++ (I know several other
languages, so it's more adopting it to my current skill set) for the
program.
Having said all that, I would love to attend this workshop. So would a
complete beginner be able to follow along? Maybe buying a dorkboard
and getting his feet wet with the community? Perhaps I could just come
and watch?
Please let me know if this would be appropriate. I would love to get
started with you guys.
