I had some trouble uploading to the dorkboard that seemed to be fixed  
by re-selecting the board and serial port. (Or maybe it was upgrading  
to Arduino 12 that did it?) Anyway, I religiously select Diecemila  
and /dev/tty.usbserial.whatever in the Tools menu every time I start  
up the Arduino app, even if they're already selected, and I haven't  
had it freeze up since.

You can also check that the Benito's responding by doing "About this  
Mac" in the apple menu, click the More Info button and select USB in  
the sidebar.
