[dorkbotpdx-blabber] accellerometers!

oh geez, i'm reading this article and running away screaming:
http://curiousinventor.com/guides/Surface_Mount_Soldering/QFN
on the other hand, this skillet approach looks promising:
http://www.nearfuturelaboratory.com/2007/01/20/reflow-skillet-
mxc6202/
although that's with a pre-tinned circuit board -- one of the
many kinds of circuit board that i don't know how to make.
for prototyping, i think the sparkfun breakout, at $19.99,
is probably just as good for me as the $3.18 chip from
Digikey plus $9.99 for the schmartboard, plus some amount
of my time and some decent chance of fucking up the whole
operation. i'll spend $7 bucks to remain a n00b for
a little while longer. =)
but if/when i get to the point of designing a PCB ... i guess
i need to learn more about my options. can i get PCBs made
with pre-tinned leads for a QFN chip? or should i start
looking for a different package now?
meanwhile: i also need to get a new Arduino system, since
the only one I own is on tour with the Speed-Vest.
so when's the next DorkBoard party?
