Actually, in many cases you don't even need to build it -- on most linux
distros, it is readily available for installation. For instance, on
Ubuntu/Debian it is a available in the gcc-avr package. I believe there is
also a readily available installer for both OSX and Windows. Not that
there's anything wrong with building it yourself -- I just prefer to save my
CPU cycles (and CPU fan noise) for other tasks.
