[dorkbotpdx-blabber] a dc step-up converter for EL wire?

hi all,
i'm working on the next version of the SpeedVest, seeing what i
can get done in time for Maker Faire. i've found some tiny chips
from SuperTex that will switch EL-wire driving voltages (120v is
normal) on and off nicely. i just need to supply them with a
tiny bit of 120v DC and tell them to switch it on and off.
my last EL-wire project involved buying an inverter from an
inverter store. now i'm trying to do all the parts myself.
i figure what i need is a boost converter that boosts DC from
two AA batteries (that's about 3v) to 120 volts at some very
small current level.
there must be a chip to do that, right? i've found some boost
converters that go as high as 12 volts, but i need to go higher.
do any of you have a favorite DC-DC boost converter, and/or
a favorite technique for generating high voltages on your
battery-powered doodads?
thanks,
-mykle-
