I have an adapter board I designed for a Cypress 128x8 Static Ram. The 
adapter takes the TSSOP and turns it into a 32 pin DIP - complete with 
decoupling caps. I have the parts and will build it up if you would like 
to try it. If it works, we could order parts and build one you could 
keep (or do a similar design for a larger SRAM). I designed it for a 
frame buffer, but that project is on the back burner right now. So you 
could experiment for a while before I would need it back.
