[dorkbotpdx-blabber] avrdude ... I'm so afraid to mess up my fuses

You shouldn't have to waste the chips even if you mess up the fuses.   
There are a number of Atmel Dragon programmers around from a group  
order (including one at OpenTechSpace which you are welcome to use).   
By using the high voltage programming mode you can always reprogram  
the fuses no matter what they have been set to.  I think you can even  
use avrdude on the mac to do the HV programming (and of course AVR  
Studio on Windows).
