I'm surprised none of the experts have responded to this.  But AFAIK,  
you can use any of the Ardiuno bootloaders to load any .hex from the  
avr-gcc tool chain.  The modified Lady Ada version (http://www.dorkbotpdx.org/blog/feurig/burning_a_bootloader_with_the_avr_dragon 
) seems to be pretty popular.
