[dorkbotpdx-blabber] Piezo used as an input to the arduino.

Hey all

I’m looking for the circuit that I saw somewhere that ties a Piezo buzzer to
the input of an Arduino. I looked at Collins projects and the circuits he
uses are more complex than what I need or am looking for. I’m pretty sure
Don showed it to me, I breadborded it up and played with it. It worked
great and then I tore the circuit apart without writing anything down.
ARGH!!! It was a very simple circuit that used a resistor, a diode and the
Piezo
 I think??

If anyone has a schematic or suggestions, I’d appreciate it. I could
probably figure it out myself but I seem to remember talk of a Piezo
generating enough voltage to blow up the input on the Arduino so I figure
I’d better ask first (and blow stuff up later).

Other questions:

1) Has anyone found an easy or creative way to mount the Teensy++? My
project needs to have it elevated above the Piezo element (so I can’t use
long header pins because they would touch the Piezo) and I’m having trouble
coming up with a solution. I’ve only got a 2” x 2” x ½” space for it. The
best solution I’ve come up with so far is to mount the Teensy++ to another
board using headers and then mount the board to my surface around the Piezo
using standoffs. I can’t permanently attach anything because I need to get
to the circuit for reprogramming / data downloading.

2) Has anyone tried using the Teensy++ for time keeping? If so, how
accurate over the period of a week? All my experiments have been off by a
couple of seconds every hour which is too much for my application. I’d love
to see code samples if anyone has some.

Thanks,

Greg
