Hey Dorkbot-PDXers,

A few of your fellow members are conspiring to attend ToorCamp, a
"hacker" camp modeled after famous European camps -- Berlin's Chaos
Communication Camp and The Netherlands Hack series ("Hacking In
Progress", "...At Large", "...At Random").

This first-ever US outdoor camp takes place in Eastern Washington over
the long Fourth of July weekend -- in an underground Titan missile silo!

Many of the anticipated talk and workshop topics are purely in the
technical realm, and will be a good opportunity to pick up some new
skills. This is also precisely the sort of crowd that would react with
great interest to Dorkbot themes -- technology as applied (or
misapplied) to human intellectual, creative, social, aesthetic, and
political existence. So if you want to go, you should also consider
giving a talk or workshop!

Camping is involved and will take place on the surface (not in the
silo). Weather there is typically in the 80s and the high 50s in the
evening. Perfect camping weather, if you ask me... The basics will be
provided -- 110V AC, Internet, food/water/toilets. I'm not sure if
"food" means food vending or that food is part of the deal (I suspect
the former).

I'm intending to organize a Dorkbot camp with some electronic
equipment (meters, scopes, soldering irons) in hopes people will use
the opportunity to collaborate on projects with their Dorkbot
colleagues. I'd also like to plan carpools and some community meals of
some sort.

Registration is $150 at present. The organizers increase the
registration cost $50 at the beginning of each month. So come April
1st, it'll be $200, and $350 if you wait until July to register.

Please post to the list or e-mail me directly if you're interested.
I'd like to keep track of who's attending because we can get a 10%
discount if we assemble ten or more attendees into an official camp
group. We're already at five!
