Wasn't there one in Austin? So there's been one in Austin and San
Fran... PDX is pretty big on makers... not just dorkbot, but there's
lots of crafters and stuff too...

A few months back I spoke with some of the people at Make magazine while
getting the MakePDX thing organized and they were talking about putting
together a "Makerfaire in a Box" for helping get more
Makerfaire-like-events going around the country. Not that they would
have to sponsor or brand it, but they might be able to help with it.
I'd be interested in helping get something big like this organized for
Portland as well.

It would be nice to have something bigger and more diverse.
Small show and tell is great for a bar, but having lots of big space for
different stuff would be cool, but then getting organized has never been
a strong suit for me.

Don't we kinda do that twice a month at a bar anyway ;)
But Yeah, I think it'd be a blast to get an area set up
to a maker
faire-esque sort of thing. Makezine started off small.
In fact I
remember when Phillip Torrone had his website setup with
all the
projects he did... Back in the early 2000's. He got
intrest up, and took
it to the next level... There's intrest that's for sure.

I actually bought the domain diypdx.org
<http://diypdx.org/> at one point hoping to do
something with it centered around the idea of something
like MakerFaire
but more Portland-oriented. I figure with the number of
craft-types,
DIYers, Dorkbots, Makers, Hackers, etc. in Portland, it
would be easy to
make it successful. But as it turns out, I'm really good
at
overcommiting myself, so...
Still, I'd love to help push something in the right
direction.
