Cypress Semiconductor had a drag-and-drop microcontroller programming  
UI a few years ago that might be worth looking at. I think it's called  
PSoC Express. It's specific to their PSoC chip, but a similar idea  
would apply to any microcontroller.

I've wanted to do something similar myself. The Arduino stuff is nice  
in some ways, but has a lot of things that could be improved on or  
done differently...
