Perhaps a switching type voltage doubler; but this will be challenging to 
get in a smaller space than a second button battery.

Or can  you put the battery in your pocket?

For my lighted necklaces and jewelry, I run wires inside my clothing to my 
pockets where I have a 7.2 volt 1.5 AH NIMH pack.
