[dorkbotpdx-blabber] Why did God invent Solder in Fuses

Folks:
This may sound like a rant, but I have to get this off my chest :)
Why in heck did God invent these stupid solder down fuses?
I recently had a device quit on me. There was no external fuse, but there
was a solder down fuse on the circuit board buried inside the device.
Perhaps it may be my own solder-welding-glueing fume induced dementia,
but I think it's one of the stupidest concepts concieved on this side
of the Milky Way galexy to have solder down fuses in a device.
I have been braught up to believe that a fuse is meant to be an easily
replaceable component that save the rest of the device from failure.
A solder down fuse would force a non technical geek person to take
the device back to the store only to be told to replace the whole
device, or at least the board with the fuse on it.
Folks, please enlighten me.
Luv & Peace
