dorkbotpgh is next Thursday, 20 Nov, 7:30-9:30, at brillobox.

We're going to try something new this month and we want your help. 
Instead of our normal "two speaker" evening, we're going to go for one 
speaker and open up some time for "opendork"   Opendork is something 
that's been popular at dorkbot events in other cities, and we've been 
waiting for the chance to try it here.

Opendork is simple: you have 5 minutes to present on anything you like. 
  Your presentation can be on a completed project, a work in progress, 
or an idea you have that you want help with.  You can have no slides, 
one slide, or 20, but you have a hard limit of 5 minutes from the time 
you start. If you want to present in opendork, email me 
(jet at allartburns.org) and I'll put you down in the order I receive 
requests.   We only have time for ~6 of these, so get your request in 
early, k?


This month, we're proud to have Richard Pell, Institute for Applied 
Autonomy (<http://www.appliedautonomy.com/>) as our featured speaker.

Richard is a founding member of the art and engineering collective, the 
Institute for Applied Autonomy. His work includes several robotic, web 
and biologically based projects that call into question the imperatives 
that drive technological development. IAA projects such as the robotic 
GraffitiWriter, iSee and TXTmob have been exhibited in art, activist and 
engineering contexts andhave been chosen for an Award of Distinction and 
two Honorable Mentions at the Prix-Ars Electronica in Linz. Richard's 
narrative and documentary videos explore the individual's relationship 
to authority. His most recent video documentary entitled, Don't Call Me 
Crazy On The 4th Of July, has won several awards and has screened in 
numerous international festivals. In 2007 he was awarded a prestigious 
Rockefeller New Media Fellowship for the establishment of a new museum 
entitled The Center for PostNatural History.


As always, dorkbot pittsburgh is open to the public, non-smoking, 
all-ages, and admission is free. We meet upstairs at Brillobox 
(<http://www.brillobox.net>), dinner and drinks are available.
