*** BRING YOUR OWN SOLDERING IRON! ***

For the soldering workshop and for the project  you'll need to
bring your own soldering iron.

  - If you don't own one, you can pick up an inexpensive ($7.99) but
decent one at RadioShack (we recommend the 25-Watt Pencil, Model#
64-2070, Catalog # 64-2070).

  - For those looking for an iron with little more smoke, consider
upgrading to a temperature controlled model. (we recommend ZD
Electronic Tools: ZD-929C for $46.95,

*** BRING YOUR OWN SOLDER ***

Consider bringing *lead free* solder for $2.99 (Radio Shack, Model#
64-025, Catalog # 64-025)



*** BRING $ TO BUILD YOUR OWN BEAM ROBOT! ***

We've purchased 10 kits to build a BEAM robot.  Our cost per kit was
$15 (including S&H).   If you would like to build your own kit -
bring $15. If you'd like to work in a group of three then just bring
$5!

The kits came from Solarbotics and are the same ones discussed in Make
Magazine's Vol.6 ( http://www.solarbotics.com).



*** BRING SOME JUNK! ***

The beam robot kit is complete, but if you want to customize it,
consider brining along some small parts to work with.  Many people use
wheels and mechanical components scavenged from cassette players, VCRs,
floppy and hard disks, and other recycled sources...
