Burning Man 2007 is just around the corner, so for this August
Dorkbotmeeting, we will focus on the art of Burning Man! First we
will hear from
Kay Morrison, President of Ignition Northwest ( http://ignitionnw.org), the
regional burner-based arts and community group in the Northwest. Then you
will see several Burning Man projects that will particularly appeal to geek
and artist in you!
- Simon Winder will talk about the dog dish art car, a wonder of
microcontrolled steering.
- Josh Lind will talk about his art car project for this year, the
radioator. The Radioator is a mobile radio/audio broadcast cart, with
giant headphones, for silent parties. ( http://www.dbltht.com/ )
- Mars Saxman will show us how to make laser fingers. Lasers!
- Buphalo will show us how to incorporate fire into art, which he has
done for the Fire Pod (which appeared at Burning Man, Bumpershoot, and
Coachella) in previous years and for the hammerstrike for this year!
- Pope Phabulous will explain how to use Electroluminescent Wire (EL
wire) in art and costumes!
Doors will be open at 7:00 if you want to show up early, drink a beer, and
chat.
If you want to talk about your latest creation or announce an upcoming event
during our "open dork" session, let me know! If you'd like to speak or
perform at, or curate, a future Dorkbot, talk to me or email me at
shellyhivemind@gmail.com.
Looking forward to seeing you all on the 1st! Special thanks as ever go to
911 Media Arts Center, our fabulous hosts.

Subject: Dorkbot's "Strange Things" Call for Proposals
To: dorkbotsea-announce@dorkbot.org
Hello Dorkbots!
I am very happy to announce that our biannual show "Strange Things"
(a.k.a . Seattle Dorkbot's People Doing Strange Things with
Electricity III) will be held at 911 Media Arts Center from December 8
to January 9th, 2008. We will take over 2800 square feet of the
building with our strange and amazing art, art that in some way uses
technology.
We want your art at "Strange Things", whether it be LED wall hangings
or full room robotic installations!
The full request for proposals, with submittal requirements, is at:
http://dorkbot.org/dorkbotsea/events/pdstwe3/callforartists.shtml
Please note the deadline for proposals: September 10, 2007.
I am really excited the show is finally happening, it took us a while
to find a space, and special thanks to 911 Media Arts Center!
Shelly
