This interesting link explains how the photographic data captured from
the various mars satelites and ground-based rovers gets to earth.  The
company managing the downlink system calls itself "the first internet
provider to mars".
 
This webpage explains how data is relayed and buffered between the
available martian satelites, with a good bit of technical detail.
