I also have an LCD display with blown backlight, two in fact, and
was thinking of doing the same. The tubes are way too expensive.
Keep in mind that LEDs have a color temperature just as other light
sources, and not all white LEDs are created equal. Some may have
strange effects like miscolored halos and discontinuous spectrum.
