Please join us in a presentation and conversation about games and
simulations that promote peace, social justice, and emotional health.
Learn about features unique to games that make them excellent teaching
tools, especially for children who do not learn well in standard
classroom environments. Imagine the possiblity of shaping a more
desirable future, one game at a time.
Eric Brown and Asi Burak, Impact Games, will demonstrate the game
Peacemaker where players take on the roll of Israeli Prime Minister or
Palestinian leader, and winning means ending the Israeli-Palestinian
conflict.
Luversa Sullivan, IT Systems Analys and award-winning teacher at
Evergreen State College, will talk about her work with girls from
under represented communities in the Invention Center at the Intel
Computer Clubhouse in Tacoma, where learning means "playing" with Lego
Robotics, Scratch and PicoCrickets.
John Wilkerson, Assistant Professor, Political Science-UW, will discuss
teaching with LegSim, his web-based simulation of a federal legislature.
2002 Winner American Political Science Assocation's IT and Politics
Award.
Herman (Hy) Resnick, Professor Emeritus in UW's School of Social Work,
is a long time advocate of games, like Busted, the game he created to
help teenagers learn how to change self-defeating behavior.
Howard Rose, Imprint Interactive Technology Inc, Designs virtual reality
(VR) worlds for VR Explosure Therapy to help patients overcome
phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Howard will describe
Middle East conflict simulations (exploding buses, sniper attacks, etc.)
designed to help soldiers and civilians suffering from PTSD.
The email addresses of the regional coordinators Ruth Fruland and Morgan
