ROBOTICS INSTRUCTOR
Saturday Academy at Club MESA

The Seattle MESA program serves over 1200 students from 24 elementary,
middle, and high schools. Seattle MESA's efforts are directed towards
Seattle Public Schools students who are underrepresented in mathematics,
engineering, and science professions, including African-American, Native
American, Hispanic, and female students. Participating students receive
educational enrichment experiences and practical help needed to prepare for
university-level studies in a variety of science and technology related
fields with support from the University of Washington's College of
Engineering.

The purpose of Club MESA is to provide a structured track for MESA juniors
and seniors. The Saturday Academy will provide students with an opportunity
to explore professional careers in either health sciences or engineering.
In addition to improving math skills, students will participate in afternoon
workshops in either Robotics or Adventures in Medicine and CSI. Classes are
held one Saturday a month from September through May.

The Robotics track will expose students to the core engineering process and
scientific method by working through the creation of a VEX Kit robot.
Training on the basic principles of mechanical engineering will also be
applied via gear and pulley workshops. Developing a team robotics challenge
will serve as the end product.
