dorkbot
"people doing strange things with electricity"
The first Tacoma dorkbot meeting will be on Tuesday, February 20 at Tacoma
School of the Arts' club SOTA
Laura and Joe will talk a little to introduce dorkbot, encourage people to
present at future meetings, and answer questions.
The presenters for the evening are:
Justin Gorman: The Justin Show is a multi-media presentation by Tacoma-based
artist Justin Gorman, a cohesive collage of unique short stories, rants,
observations and satirical political critique. The presentation is a
synthesis of produced videos drawn from Mr. Gorman's four solo CD releases,
and PowerPoint presentations inspired by the ease of appropriation in this
era of digital information. More information on Justin is available at
http://www.justinjgorman.com
Eric McNeill: Untitled: Portrait, Movement - Rabbit!!!: Seattle-based artist
and technologist Eric McNeill will discuss the design and construction of
his animated LED panels, and will also give an introduction to using Rabbit
Microprocessors. In addition to simply showing lo-res video, "Untitled
(Portrait/Movement)" is an example of some of the more advanced things you
can do with a $50 micro like the Rabbit - for example, networking support to
allow the piece to put or fetch media on or from the Internet. More info
about Eric can be found at http://smellsnew.com
There will also be an open dork after the presentations where anyone can
take the floor for about 10 minutes to show us what you're working on, make
announcements, look for collaborators, etc.
--- Special thanks to SOTA for making Club SOTA available to dorkbot ---
