ooo, I know this one! The flat part is called a "flat". :) As I
understand it, they're traditionally meant to be used with a set-
screw, but (at least for small stuff) I also see gears with a
corresponding chord filled in in their bore. I don't know if that's
considered a special case of a key+keyway, or splined shaft, or not.
