[dorkbotsea-blabber] where can I get a magnet?

You'd also find a ring-shaped magnet in a brushless dc motor (or fan), if you have one of about that size that you are willing to rip apart. Vetco in Bellevue also has a few bins of various magnets -- you might give them a call to see if they have one like what you need (or a motor/fan/speaker that would have it).

Sounds like the kind of magnet you find on the back of a large
speaker. Does it matter to you how the poles are arranged? Maybe you
could find a cheap or damaged woofer somewhere and scavenge its
magnet, assuming speaker design hasn't changed much since the last
time I pulled one apart. (Sometimes the magnets are hard to remove
from the speaker without breaking them, though.)
Otherwise, maybe Science Art & More in Roosevelt?
