Hey Folks,

Something some people I know down in SF are working on.

They really need the tools ;).

Instructables is having a contest for $20,000 in Craftsman tools. We
entered our GEK gasified honda accord, which, not to shock you,
finally works (and mostly as originally intended). the locals
finished it last week while i was away and took it for a cruise
through west oakland, running on eucalyptus chips. reports are that
no shots were fired. and smiles of disbelief once again were seen on
all. video on you tube:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Convert_your_Honda_Accord_to_run_on_trash/

we put it on the instructables contest as a "build a gasifier in 5
easy steps" sort of thing. well, it is probably the longest and most
complicated instructable ever written, if you count all the
sub-instructables and link detours. you can see it here:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Convert_your_Honda_Accord_to_run_on_trash/

would you consider voting for us? we need tools. you can vote at the
above link.

or maybe you would like to vote for the steathy jon sarigarte and
krysten mate and their admitedly stunning snail? they are here in the
contest: http://www.instructables.com/id/Snail_Art_Car_The_Golden_Mean/.
they are beating us in the vote, but we are beating them in the
number of views, 2,000:10,000. we somehow got gizmododed and
treehuggered yesterday and clicking went nuts. but jon and krysten
have better engaged the friend voting network. that, and their entry
actually looks nice.

but ignoring nepotism, my favorite is actually the "how to make a
plasma cutter out of junk" instructable. this one is actually useful,
unlike either jon/krysten or ours. also, it is a tool.
http://www.instructables.com/id/HOMEMADE_PLASMA_CUTTER/ but don't
vote for him/her/them.

and don't vote or jon/krysten. they certainly don't need anymore
tools. i was in their shop last week and they are up to the rafters
in tools. amazing really. the best was 3 giant metal working hammers
and a vertical marvel cut off saw. that and every other metal working
tool imaginable, all perfectly set up, labeled, oiled and copied in
triplacate. you will never touch them.

now us on the other hand, we are short of tools, and we are a mess.
not inconsequently, from all the tools most of you have borrowed,
broken, lost, stolen or otherwise acquired and disappeared out of the
yard over the years. so can we propose a compensatory gesture? you
vote for us and we offer general amnesty for previous tool violations?
we get a bunch of new tools and you return to a clean slate.
somewhat like parking ticket amnesty. or immigration.

that, or you can vote for the guy with the robot drink caddy:
http://www.instructables.com/id/Build_A_Mobile_Bar_BaR2D2/

or maybe the talladega nights inspired six cheese fountain:
http://www.instructables.com/id/How_To_Build_A_8220Talladega_Nights8221_Insp/

choice choices.

but whatever you do, don't squander this important moment of
democratic enfranchisement. the instructables robot is waiting for
your input.
