If it's a standardish barrel connector, you could do it with a  
soldering iron, $5, and a trip to radio shack--- they do stock a few  
common varieties of that connector.

FWIW, those barrel connectors vary not just in outer diameter, but  
also in the diameter and length(!) of the inner pin. This can be very  
frustrating if you get a mismatch.
