I just started a screenings/performance night in North County San Diego (at the Escondido Municipal Gallery space) and it needs more dorkbots. If anyone has short film/video pieces, entertaining documentation, or would be willing to do some kind of hacked-toy/laptop / multimedia / other performance, let me know. Theme of January's screening is "The Future", but send me anything, and I can line it up for future events. Details: http://www.escondidoarts.org/screenings.htm Thanks! Machine Project was supposed to get a significant grant this month - but it's been canceled. For an organization of their size this is great loss. Machine Project hosts Dorkbot and we've worked very closely with them. I think we're the longest-term and most-regular event that uses the gallery. I am personally asking you - as a Dorkbotter - to become a Machine member, buy some stuff from them or donate some cash to help them out. I think they're one of the most innovative, unique, awesome, interesting and cool organizations I know of. Becoming a member is easy (and can add extra money - I'd encourage you to go beyond the basic amount): ==>http://machineproject.com/membership/ Also, books and workshop gift certificates make good holiday gifts - the Machine Project almanac has documentation of every Dorkbot held at Machine: ==> http://machineproject.com/store/ Please give what you can. Spend the $50+ you would usually spend on tech events and drinks in LA for January and give it to Machine.. Some food processors also get metal ones. Otherwise, I'd call Sun Valley, Schorr Metals or other new/scrap metal dealers. Shouldn't cost too much. Let me know if you need help opening/cutting it.
